Davao City is known for our pieces of landmark legislation that are groundbreaking and always fully enforced. Including the ban on fireworks and firecrackers. Thanks to Ordinance 060-02, Series of 2002 Davao City has been celebrating New Year and other occasions without injuries and pollution due to firecrackers and fireworks.

New Year in Davao City, however, has never been quiet or boring. In lieu of firecrackers, Davao City has been celebrating New Year with the Davao City Torotot Festival. And this 2015, Smart Prepaid brought their “Live All Out” celebration to the festival.

This year’s Torotot Festival started with a parade of locals donned in colorful Torotot-inspired costumes. Locals also showed off their artistry via a Most Creative Torotot Compeition. An ingenious torotot with an intricate durian wood carving was awarded as the Most Creative Torotot.

In the afternoon, the New Year countdown program started with a grand hiphop dance battle. Representatives from Davao City’s barangays showed off their moves and Sta. Ana Move Struck bested them all.

Joining the fun, Smart Prepaid gave their loyal and new subscribers exciting prizes and fun games at their activity booths.

Pinoy band Color it Red and vocalist Luke Mejares sang OPM songs to the delight of the crowd.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte received the biggest applause as he addressed the crowd and thanked everyone and Smart for supporting the city’s advocacy in creating a safe and peaceful New Year celebration.

As 2014 drew to a close, thousands of Davaoenos simultaneously blew their colorful torotots welcoming the 2015 with loud and enthusiastic merriment.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Assistant Secretary for Mindanao Arturo Boncato unveiled DOT’s new campaign, “Visit the Philippines 2015.” Boncato gave importance to Davao City’s role in the Visit Philippines campaign as the city continues to draw a growing number of local and foreign tourists every year for its awesome nature attractions, rich culture, and colorful festivals.

With Smart’s Free Internet for All, Davaoenos at the Davao City Torotot Festival enjoyed taking photos, posting status messages, and sharing the New Year joy to their friends and family online.
