What started out as a dream of Mrs. Christina Munda is now a reality: to open a fashion and design school in Mindanao. Late last year, Davao’s budding young fashion entrepreneurs and designers finally got an educational institution centered on their passion, the Fashion Institute of Design and Arts (FiDA).

With the assistance of her Dabawenyo husband Gerry Munda, Christine, a former fashion educator at DLSU – CSB, opened the FiDA to cater to the growing need in Mindanao for an educational institution dedicated to the fashion industry.

For 2010, FiDA offers the following courses:

  • 2 Year Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Design and Apparel Technology
  • 1 Year Diploma in
    • Fashion Design and Apparel Technology
    • Fashion Merchandising
  • 6 Month Certificate in
    • Fashion Design
    • Apparel Technology
    • Fashion Merchandising
  • 3 Month Introductory Course in Fashion Business

FiDA works on the philosophy that fashion is no longer just a hobby or for recreation; but also a job and a career. And we agree. In the thriving fashion industry today, the Filipino creativity and unique Filipino materials are definitely at par with the world’s best. And FiDA is the right institute for Mindanaoans who wish to succeed in the field.

    dear FiDA,
Im very interested that coarse, because fasion is my passion.Actually,im 3rd year high school now in San agustine Institute of Technology(SAIT)in valencia, bukidnon,i want t be a fasion designer someday. To me, fashion is all about personal style, not designer dictates. My role is to offer the freedom and fashion to pull this together in a completely modern way – with simplified pieces that are timeless, luxurious, and flexible. This is not about a season; it’s about everything I stand for…Building a wardrobe.

Fashions should be inspiring, unique and strong. Women should wear the clothes and never let them wear her. Because that’s what great style is all about. The confidence to be true to yourself. That’s why I think “Her Closet” as a celebration of personal style.

    Dear FiDA,

I would really love to join this course. It’s something that I really wanted to do .. Maybe a summer class would be nice, But my busy schedule won’t allow me. I’m currently taking a biology course in Ateneo. I’d like to ask, how much is the tuition fee for a summer class? I just want to know, just in case I’m available next summer. Then, maybe I can join. Thank you. I would love to hear your reply.

Hi Pearl! FiDA has a modular class on Sewing & on pattern making, its a 12-session course which you can complete based on your own schedule/most convenient time as long as you complete your projects. So even if you have a busy schedule you can still study here.:) Each course is for only P9,000 inclusive of materials. Hope to hear from you.:)
