Lachi’s Favorites and Recommendations | DFAT 2020

We are fans of Lachi’s Sans Rival Atbp. And by we, I mean the entire My Davao City Team, Davao Bloggers, and basically most of the people I know. On this blog alone, we have posted about them several times. We hope you continue to patronize and love them, as we do. Here are some of our Lachi’s favorites which you might want to try.

Why We Love Them

Lachi’s Sans Rival Atbp is one of Davao’s most popular food stops. As the name suggests, their business began with their Sans Rival and has now grown into a thriving food business with 3 branches serving crowd favorite savory dishes and decadent yet affordable desserts and pastries.

Related Post: Our First Lachi’s Blog Post published in July 2007

What makes them stand out is the excellent quality of their food that has not changed over time. Every time you visit Lachi’s you can expect the same masterfully prepared homecooked meals. Nothing fancy. Just good old comfort food that will delight any diner.

And yes, their desserts are to die for. Each one is perfectly balanced. Nothing too sweet. Every component properly prepared.

Our Lachi’s Favorites

Number one in our list of Lachi’s favorites is their Laing.

Lachi's favorites Laing
Lachi’s famous Laing.

Our contributor Athina shares “I was never a fan of laing until I tasted Lachi’s famous laing. As somebody who is not a fan of vegetables, this specialty definitely changed my mind.” Almost everybody who has tried it will agree. Laing is great as a companion to their other savory dishes like the Lechon Kawali and the Pork Ribs. Or you can just eat it on its own with some steamed rice. A bit of warning though, you will definitely consume a lot of rice when you eat laing.

Here is great news for all. Laing bottles their laing and you can bring it home or gift as giveaway or pasalubong.

Bottled Laing
Bottled Laing

We have been buying their frozen laing in tubs and the bottled one is just as good. Lachi’s bottled Laing is available in both Mild and Spicy varieties. Buy one or more and make sure to satisfy that craving anytime you want. These are available at both their Marfori and Tulip Branches for just P170 a bottle.

Unforgettable Pork Ribs

As mentioned, Lachi’s serves great ribs aptly named “Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs.”

Lahci’s Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs

Our Managing Editor Olivia picks this as her favorite: “Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs is one of my all time favorite when dining at Lachis. It is soft and tasty too! Mapaparequest ka talaga ng extra rice.” And we are sure this is also on the list of a lot of people’s Lachi’s favorites. It sure is on the list of many of our friends.

The meat is tender and falls off the bones. You can just use your spoon and fork to take the juicy and flavorful meat. The taste is a good balance of salty and sweet with a bit of sour all tied together by the great smokey flavor of the grilling process.

You can order this at their Marfori branch as a packed hot meal with rice for only P200.

Asian Spicy Chicken

Another top recommendation to order at Lachi’s is the Asian Spicy Chicken.

I guess it can be said that Lachi’s is masterful in balancing flavors and textures. Their famous Asian Spicy Chicken is proof of that. Juicy on the inside. Crispy on the outside. With a sauce that is all at once spicy, sour, sweet, and salty. Superb. Our correspondent Renz recommends this.

Unfortunately, this dish is not available at Lachi’s right now. But let us keep our fingers crossed that the situation improves for Lachi’s and for everybody.

Pork Binagoongan

And here is a recommendation for all those whose heart belongs to Filipino cuisine.

Lachi's Favorites Pork Binagoongan
Pork Binagoongan

Our Editor Ria picks the Pork Binagoongan as one of her current Lachi’s favorites. (Her list changes from time to time.) She loves how perfectly salty it is. Salty enough to demand at least 2 cups of rice but not too salty to be overwhelming. “You can still taste the tender pork even when it is drowned in more than enough bagoong.”

Our Top Picks for Best Nachos in Davao

It’s NACHOS DAY! To celebrate this day, we have prepared for you a list of the Best Nachos to try in Davao.

There is no popular authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant here in Davao. (If there is any you know of, let us know. Leave a comment down below.) But we do have a handful of restaurants and bars that offer nacho dishes. Given that most of these restaurants do not really make their own nacho chips. So we are recommending the best nacho dishes based on the quality of chips they use. We also love these dishes because of the toppings, dips, and sauces they are served with. The ratio of chips to everything else also matters. And yes, consistency of quality. And presentation.

Best Nachos in Davao List

Nachos by Batu Cafe

We love Batu Cafe‘s Nachos. The chips are served without any toppings but with three sauces on the side.

It’s like you can make your own perfect nacho. Our Editor Ria of KusinaMaria.com loves putting a bit of Chili con Carne and some Cheese Sauce on her nacho. Sometimes a chip with just the Tomato Onion Salsa is a great way to cut through the richness of the Cheese Sauce. There is a sauce for everyone.

You can also have the option to order more chips or more sauce.

These chips are our favorite to snack on while hanging out. Be it during the daytime or while drinking at night. Batu Cafe is open from 10 am to 1 pm so you can have these from morning to midnight.

Cheesy Nachos by Cafe Demitasse

Planning a meeting or want to work outside of your home? Go to Cafe Demitasse and order their Cheesy Nachos.

We love ordering this during meetings, hangouts, and basically just about any time we are at Cafe Demitasse.

Nachos. Beef. Cabbage and onions. Fresh tomatoes. Cheese sauce. Shredded Cheese. This is the perfect nachos platter to share. Or not? Eat it alone. We won’t judge you.

And you can ask them to remove the onions (as suggested by Ria, who is not a fan of raw onions) or any component you like. Or you can just have it one the side. We suggest asking for the cheese sauce served separately to avoid sogging. But hey, if you are going to eat this fast, no need to do that.

This goes great with Cafe Demitasse’s Iced Tea or beer. Yes, they serve beer.

Off the Menu by Lachi’s Sans Rival Atbp.

And here’s something we love but unfortunately can’t share yet.

Lachi‘s does not serve this to the public so we apologize. And the star of this dish is Tomato Salsa. Tasty and tangy with a great balance of sour, salty, and sweet this Tomato Salsa is a must-try.

They served this to us during our events and special occasions. And we have been asking to have this on their menu. Or maybe Lachi‘s could be convinced to sell the salsa in bottles. Who knows, they might after we post about it. Repeatedly. Persistence pays off. We hope.

One of our favorite noodle dishes in the city is Ajitama Ramen by Sukidesu Davao. It is tasty and costs only PhP99. The best ramen you can get for less than a hundred pesos. They also serve Chasu Ramen, Black Ramen, and Miso Ramen.

And now, they add Spicy Ramen to satisfy the cravings of those who want their ramen hot and spicy. Their Spicy Ramen has a rich flavorful broth and firm noodles. It is topped with pork, mushrooms, seaweed, and a delicate ajitama.

What makes it different is their super thick, super spicy sauce doused right on top of the pork chasu. And it is sprinkled with even more pepper. This ramen should come with a warning. It is definitely not for those with weak tastebuds. Sukidesu’s Spicy Ramen is definitely deliciously spicy. A bowl is priced at only PhP109.
