Bakak by Studio Beta Productions

Davao filmmaker and educator Ronald Gary Bengil Bautista did it again. After taking home most of the trophies during the 5th Mindanao FilmFest, Bautista and his crew at Studio Beta Productions took home 4 trophies at this year’s 6th Mindanao FilmFest. Bautista’s collaboration with his younger brother Leo George Bautista, an action martial arts film entitled Ang Sipyat won Best in Sound.

Meanwhile, Gary Bautista’s Bakak won for him the Best Director Award, the Best Guerilla Film Award, and the Best Film Award. The jury, composed of NCAA’s Teddy Co, columnist and artist Rudolph Alama, and lifestyle columnist and blogger Ria Jose felt that Bakak is a film that is both technically excellent and a good representation of a new direction that Mindanao films will take.

6th Mindano Film Festival

3 Documentaries. 11 Short Films. 10 Guerilla Films.

24 films will be available for viewing for the 6th Mindanao Film Fest, from December 3 – 5, 2010 at Cinema 5 at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

The documentaries joining the film fest are “The Empowered Filipina” by Kamil Roxas, “Rhose, Where Do Your Dreams Go?” by Nawruz Paguidupon, and “This is my water” by Jeff McGary.

For the Short Films Students’ Category, the following are the MFF entries:

  • Thy Will be Done” by Kristian Somera
  • Lumon” by Leo Jeorge Bautista and Mark Nicholas Dapitanon
  • Tulay” by Zenas Harvey Apal
  • Kwerdas” by Jon Jose
  • The Red Balloon

The 6th Mindanao Film Fest is now calling for entries. The 6th Mindanao Film Fest is presented by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation, Inc., the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Southspot Entertainment, and the Mebuyan Peace Project, Inc.

Mindanaoan filmmakers and filmmakers with films about Mindanao are invited to submit their entries for exhibition films. Students are also invited to submit their short films and documentaries. And Guerilla Filmmakers have a category, as well.

5th Mindanao Film Festival

5th Mindanao Film Festival

This December, Mindanao filmmakers are once again conquering the silver screen with the Mindanao Film Festival. Now on its fifth year, the festival is bigger and better with more entries. Interesting ones.

Joining the Guerilla Filmmaking Category are:

  • Binangay (Gems Productions). A paean to the banana plantation worker who toils from sunrise to sundown, dedicated and honest individuals, unyielding even amidst a very tempting offer coming from a banana pilferer.
  • The Price of Fame (Maqer Media). A flamboyant and egotistical hip hop star finally meets his match in a short film that tackles fame and the pitfalls of paying its price.
  • Boluntaryo (Plasticups Productions). The story of a street educator, who gives up everything to satisfy his desire, not the worldly kind but a benevolent passion to serve his brethren amidst obstacles and adversities.
