Durian Festival 2017

“King of Fruits,” this is what people often call durian. Whether you like it or not, you must admit durian looks regal. And yes, its smell lords over all other fruits. And for those who love it, its taste is simply like no other. Luckily, it is one of the fruits that is bountiful here in Davao and it is one of the fruits that is celebrated during the Kadayawan Festival. And SM Lanang Premier celebrates this king of fruits through the Durian Festival 2017.

Durian Festival 2017 Launch

The Kadayawan Durian Festival 2017 launched on August 11 at the SM Lanang Premier Northwing Event Grounds. SM gathered partners in the agriculture industry to celebrate another bountiful harvest of fruits, flowers, vegetables, and crops. And most of all, Davao’s durian.

SM Lanang Premier Mall Manager Therese Lapeña-Manalo shares, “As with every Kadayawan season, SM Lanang Premier is a key venue to celebrate the city’s festivity of bounty and blessing.”

SM Supermalls Kadayawan 2017 Events

Davao is often described as a melting pot of cultures. And there is no better proof of that than the colorful thanksgiving celebration called “Kadayawan Festival.” This year, SM celebrates the Kadayawan with events that highlight the best of Davao’s diverse arts and culture scene. SM Supermalls Kadayawan Opening Weekend Events

First, SM Lanang Premier opened the festivities with an Ikebana Exhibit from August 11 to 13, 2017. Ikebana International Davao Chapter 133 showcased floral arrangements that conveys “vision, friendship, cooperation, and respect” for the Japanese art of flower arrangement.

Meanwhile, coinciding with the Kadayawan 2017 Opening Ceremonies, SM City Davao hosted a Mural Painting Challenge on August 14, 2017. The themes Sadya Dabaw, Tabunok Dabaw, Kaon Dabaw, Matahom Dabaw and Laag Dabaw were interpreted by young street artists. These works of art were painted on 8 x 8 ft upcycled canvas at the Annex Event Center. The best murals will be on exhibit at The Annex South Roadway from August 16 to 20.

Finally and most awaited of all, the Kadayawan Festival Sale has started.

Kadayawan Fashion Events

For the first time ever, the Davao Fashion Design Council (DFDC) organized a fashion competition that focuses on the unique artistry of Mindanao-made accessories.

Habi Kadayawan 2017

Habi Kadayawan 2017 will be held at August 17 at SM Lanang Premier.

Habi Kadayawan will bring accessories from Mindanao to the world. The competitors will depict the heritage of the 11 Davao tribes. The finalists will take centerstage on August 17, Thursday, 4 pm at SM Lanang Premier.

Pamulak sa Kadayawan 2017 [Kadayawan Floral Float Parade]

Most people associate Davao with durian, pomelo, and orchids, among other things. These are just some of the things we celebrate during the Kadayawan Festival. Kadayawan is Davao’s annual thanksgiving celebration that highlights its bountiful harvest of fresh tropical fruits and flowers. Davao’s bountiful harvest do not just add color and flavor to Davao’s culture, but also give a lot of Davaoeños their livelihood and source of income. We pay homage to these gifts through the much awaited Pamulak sa Kadayawan Parade. This year, Pamulak sa Kadayawan 2017 will take place on August 20, Sunday.

Pamulak sa Kadayawan 2017 is open to any person, group, organization, institution, or company. Participating floral floats are required to do an interpretation of “the celebration of life, thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, and the bounties of harvest of the city, its traditions, myths, and legends” while adhering to the Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2017 theme “Stand Tall. United. Resilient.”

Pamulak sa Kadayawan 2017 Categories

There are three categories for competing floats: DAKO (Big), GAMAY (Small), and LAHI (Alternative).

The minimum size for floats joining the DAKO Category is 8 feet in width and 16 feet in length. GAMAY entries are entries below 8 feet in width and 16 feet in length including indigenous or extraordinary small vehicles. These may be motorized or manually driven. Entries in the LAHI Category are anything indigenous or extraordinary small vehicles which are animal driven, and not electric, motorized, or fuel powered.

The maximum height for all floats is 14 feet from the ground.

Carte Blanche 2017 [Kadayawan Event] | My Davao City

Every year, partyphiles come to Davao for the most awaited music festival in the city. The one that started it all. Unfortunately, we missed it in 2016. The good news is Carte Blanche 2017 is back in time for the Kadayawan Festival.

Launched in 2013, Carte Blanche is the first EDM Music Festival in Mindanao. Year after year, Carte Blanche delivers a party that is much talked about for months. From the lineup to the hyped atmosphere replete with confetti and memorable sidelights, Carte Blanche was the party to go. Even for non-partygoers. After a one year of absence, everybody is ready for another Carte Blache. One last time.

Kadayawan 2017 Schedule and Map | My Davao City

We’re almost halfway through 2017 and just around the corner is the King of Festivals, Kadayawan 2017. Already, the City of Government of Davao has held the Launch of Kadayawan 2017.

Once again, Davao City celebrates Kadayawan with a theme relevant to Davaoeños and the current situation in Mindanao: “Stand Tall. United. Resilient.”
