Kadayawan Festival 2016 officially opened last Monday, August 15, 2016. And the best way to enjoy the festival is to have a Smart Kadayawan 2016 celebration.

Unlike most festivals in the Philippines, the Kadayawan Festival is a thanksgiving festival without Christian roots. It is a celebration of Davao’s 11 lumad tribes and the bountiful harvest that the region receives every year. It highlights the melting pot of cultures that make Davao a vibrant, booming, interesting region.

Did you know Davao’s Kadayawan Festival is the only major festival in the Philippines that is not rooted in Christian feast? Rather, it is a thanksgiving celebration that features the unique melting pot culture of Davao. It gives tribute and highlights the 10 tribes of Davao, the source of Davao’s rich history, arts, and culture.

In celebration of Kadayawan 2015, Marco Polo Davao shines the spotlight on Davao’s unique arts and culture through a unique Kadayawan Art Exhbit. The exhibit features Davao’s culture expressed through the modern arts of fashion design and photography.

Kadayawan Festival 2010 Schedule

Written by Ria Jose

The Kadayawan Festival is the annual thanksgiving festival of Davao. The term is derived from the word “Madayaw,” a greeting that means good, welcome, or beautiful.

The Kadayawan Festival is held in August in time for the bountiful harvest of fruits in the region. It is also a celebration of the Waling-waling, the Philippine Eagle, the Durian fruit, and the Mount Apo which are symbols of the beauty, bounty, and culture of Davao.

The Kadayawan Festival is also a celebration of the tri-people in the area: Christians, Muslims, and Indigenous Peoples. It is during this time of the year when the 10 indigenous tribes of Davao are celebrated and recognized as the pillars and founders of Davao.
