As students, we’re taught that 2/3s of the Earth is water. We think that water is a a resource we’re never going to run out of. That’s true. Access to clean water, however, is scarce. This is a challenge for a lot of communities. Clean water can spell a world of difference for the health and hygiene of communities. This is, specially, crucial for babies and children.

Organizations around the world are working on providing communities with access to clean water. Unilever, via Domex, is working on providing Filipino communities with clean toilets.

According to Dennis Chua, Domex Brand Manager, “the video aims to make people realize the value of a toilet which most of us, unfortunately, take for granted.” Indeed, for those of us who have lived in homes where access to a clean toilet is normal, we take for granted the fact that a lot of Filipinos don’t have access to clean water and to a clean toilet.

Clean toilets are important in diseases prevention, especially among children. Awareness of this has encouraged Filipinos all over the country to welcome the construction of new toilet facilities and the repair of old and dilapidated toilet facilities.

The Department of Health (DOH) estimates 3,420 diarrhea-related deaths among Filipino children under 5 every year. More than half of these could have been prevented by access to safe water, improved toilet sanitation, and personal hygiene. Clean toilets can help save lives.

The “Fiesta” Video is Domex’s contribution to World Toilet Day happening on November 19, 2014.

Domex is spearheading the One Million Clean Toilets Movement. The campaign collects pledges from households to conscientiously maintain their own hygienic bathrooms. Each unique view of the “Fiesta” video equates to a pledge for the advocacy campaign. For every pledge, Domex will donate P5 to UNICEF’s sanitation program. The program aims to improve access to basic sanitation in deprived areas around the world, including the Philippines.

You can contribute to the One Million Clean Toilets Movement by watching the “Fiesta” video and by inviting your friends to watch it.
